This reader won’t read either of my Lexar 256GB SDXC cards. Those same cards work fine in five other card readers. The reader sticks out far too much from the machine, a problem in cramped quarters. The card is difficult to remove due to the lip on the reader; it makes one pinch to get the card out, which is hard when working in cold conditions (stiff fingers).

This thing is extremely fast. It only took a few minutes to transfer a few hundred files from a shoot I did with a Nikon D810 to my new 15" MacBook Pro w/ Touchbar. Those RAW images from that 36MP sensor are huge (~50MB per image), but this card reader basically transferred these files at my card's maximum read speed. I have a feeling that with USB-C, this card reader will pretty much only be limited by how fast the cards actually are. That's pretty exciting for someone like me who needs to turn around a lot of images very quickly for a living. For what it's worth, the card I used was also a Lexar SDXC. Maybe the other reviewer simply got a bad unit?

It works with all my SanDisk SD cards as it should. However the 45 degree angle they put on this at the slot entrance ruins it. You place your SD card into the reader and it goes 3/4 of the way in leaving just about a 1/4 inch sticking out, you are unable to remove the card once it is in since it is so difficult and the angle of the card reader doesn't allow you to get a finger under the card to remove it. I will be looking for an updated version or another brand to purchase once more readers are available for the USB-C interface.

I do not have any complaints for the most part. It gets what needs to be done. Other reviews complain that the card reader does not give the user enough room to remove the card but to counter that argument, its one nail under and one nail on top. You can get a good grip on the card and just slide it out. Removing a card should not be rocket science at all. The price is pretty steep for a computer that is $1,700 or higher but well worth it overall. Do not let other reviews discourage you from trying a product that might work. I bought it anyway despite the reviews and it works for me!

how bad can a card reader be?

it has to do one thing...enable me to get files from my card to my macbook pro....this one is the worst card reader i have ever experienced.....i can't use it i it has to do one thing...enable me to get files from my card to my macbook pro....this one is the worst card reader i have ever experienced.....i can't use it image import for LR or capture1 at all because i get disconnection errors all the time....the only way is to copy files from the card to a folder, suffer through a couple of disconnects and make sure all files are actually copied.....then import from that folder.... also: why is it designed so it sticks out 3 inches? the rubbery/bending "neck" makes little sense.... i keep looking for this on the sandisk site (firmware updates? is there such a thing for readers?) but i guess they know why they don't even show it there....

But the device itself, though, they did attempt to make small, is quite unwieldy. Also, good luck trying to remove your SD card from this thing! As other reviewers have said it's pretty impossible to remove it once it's in there. I considered tweezers but ultimately ended up using my teeth... Dunno how it got past QA. What did they do when they went to take the SD card out? Say, oh, yeah that's not annoying at all, that'll be fine! ...
