The USB-C Digital AV Multiport Adapter lets you connect your MacBook with USB-C port or MacBook Pro with Thunderbolt 3 (USB-C) ports to an HDMI display, while also connecting a standard USB device and a USB-C charging cable.

This adapter allows you to mirror your MacBook or MacBook Pro display to your HDMI-enabled TV or display in up to 1080p at 60Hz or UHD (3840 by 2160) at 30Hz. It also outputs video content like movies and captured video. Simply connect the adapter to the USB-C port on your MacBook or any of the Thunderbolt 3 (USB-C) ports on your MacBook Pro and then to your TV or projector via an HDMI cable (sold separately).

Use the standard USB port to connect devices such as your flash drive or camera or a USB cable for syncing and charging your iPhone, iPad, or iPod. You can also connect a charging cable to the USB-C port to charge your MacBook or MacBook Pro.

Note: The Apple USB-C Digital AV Multiport Adapter is not compatible with the G-Tech G-DRIVE mobile USB 3.0 Hard Drive (Apple part number HF4F2VC/A).

      Expensive Piece of Junk

This is the access If you'd like to spend 80 bucks on an accessory that will cause your external monitor to blink on and off all day long... look no further!!! This is the accessory you've been dreaming of. I've tried different monitors. I've tried different HDMI cables. Nothing seems to help. This thing is incredibly frustrating to use. If you do decide to call support, expect to be on the phone for an hour only to be told "try plugging it into another port" on your single port usb-c macbook...

      WARNING - Bad Hardware

Apple even lists a few drives (including their own SuperDrive, pre 2011) than don't work with this adaptor, but there are more that don't work - both for storage OR Time Machine (!). This is really bizarre since the other USB-C to USB-A adaptor WILL work, but since this adaptor doesn't supply power to your MacBook, it's not a long term solution. In the instances where the Multiport adaptor DOES work with an external hard drive, it can experience drastically reduced speeds and randomly unmount the drive. The straight USB adaptor, with the same drive, does not show these issues. I can't believe Apple put this on the market without 1) more rigorous testing and 2) with this serious an issue. Having an external hard drive work with your laptop is a pretty important requirement. Terrible, terrible piece of equipment. I was an Apple employee and have worked with Macs for decades. This issue was diagnosed with a genius at an Apple Store after we went through several Multiport and regular USB adaptors, and then followed up with additional testing at home. Apple should be ashamed.

Works great with 12 year old DELL 2005FPW 20" LCD

I was immediately prompted to install an update for the adapter. I've never had an adapter require an update, but I allowed it to update. It prompted me to restart my computer which I did, and I've had zero issues with this adapter. It's been two weeks and I'm able to charge my MacBook and drive the 12 year old DELL LCD with no problems. I had previously purchased a BENFEI brand adapter from Amazon for $18. It worked ok for about two months, and then it just stopped working. I was never able to charge my MBP via the BENFEI adapter either, so I guess it's a case of getting what you pay for. I hesitated to purchase this with all the negative reviews, but so far I've had no problems.

Doesn't work most of the time

I have two 27" external monitors, so I bought two Apple USB-C Digital AV Multiport Adapters so I could hook both up (they don't support USB-C or Thunderbolt 3, I have two 27" external monitors, so I bought two Apple USB-C Digital AV Multiport Adapters so I could hook both up (they don't support USB-C or Thunderbolt 3, only Display Port and HDMI). They work horribly, usually flashing the monitor on and off like it's detecting it and then switching back off. Sometimes, I can hook everything up in a certain order and get them to work, but sometimes I only get one monitor to work and other times neither. One solitary good thing: I don't seem to have much trouble if I'm trying to use displays that are 1920x1080 or less. It's ridiculous that Apple hasn't figured these things out so I can use my existing monitors on my new MacBook Pro that I spent over $4,000 on. My workflow is less efficient now than on my old MacBook Pro, all due to this adapter failing to work as it is supposed to.
