This reader won’t read either of my Lexar 256GB SDXC cards. Those same cards work fine in five other card readers. The reader sticks out far too much from the machine, a problem in cramped quarters. The card is difficult to remove due to the lip on the reader; it makes one pinch to get the card out, which is hard when working in cold conditions (stiff fingers).

It works with all my SanDisk SD cards as it should. However the 45 degree angle they put on this at the slot entrance ruins it. You place your SD card into the reader and it goes 3/4 of the way in leaving just about a 1/4 inch sticking out, you are unable to remove the card once it is in since it is so difficult and the angle of the card reader doesn't allow you to get a finger under the card to remove it. I will be looking for an updated version or another brand to purchase once more readers are available for the USB-C interface.

Fast! Also reads Lexar SDXC for me too.

This thing is extremely fast. It only took a few minutes to transfer a few hundred files from a shoot I did with a Nikon D810 to my new 15" MacBook Pro w/ Touchbar. Those RAW images from that 36MP sensor are huge (~50MB per image), but this card reader basically transferred these files at my card's maximum read speed. I have a feeling that with USB-C, this card reader will pretty much only be limited by how fast the cards actually are. That's pretty exciting for someone like me who needs to turn around a lot of images very quickly for a living. For what it's worth, the card I used was also a Lexar SDXC. Maybe the other reviewer simply got a bad unit?

      absolutely terrible

Got this card reader only 3 months ago when I had to switch to the newest computer. Wasted $50 because it has completely broken, as well as corrupted my files. Even when it was working it is hard to insert and remove the card. It sticks out awkwardly from the side of the computer. DO NOT GET THIS

I bought this card reader from the Apple store in July after purchasing the new MacBook Pro. I didn't have time to read any reviews, but you know, I trust Apple in providing a quality product and my memory cards are from SanDisk, so I bought it. That being said, within two months of light use, this overpriced card reader has stopped working. It won't stay connected to my MacBook Pro long enough to import anything AND it has corrupted several of my files in the process. As a professional, it's simply unacceptable; I can't risk wedding photos being ruined by this faulty product. I talked to Apple, they said talk to SanDisk. I talked to SanDisk, they said they only offer refunds on items bought directly from their online store within 30 days of purchase. In conclusion, don't buy this. Come on Apple.
